Nurseries donate plants to Zoo Hickory Hill Nursery and Forest Hill Nursery Farm, both located in Forest Hill, donated thousands of plants to the Alexandria Zoo for grounds beautification. Pat Brister of Hickory Hill Nursery donated and delivered over 2,000 gorgeous bedding plants to spread throughout the zoo. During the past year Forest Hill Nursery Farm has donated over 100 trees, 50 ferns, several hundred lirope, plus thousands of annuals and perennials. Stanley Young, owner of Forest Hill Nursery Farm, has continued the tradition of kindness and generosity begun by his father Robert Young, and brother, Doug Young. The Young family has contributed plants to the Alexandria Zoo for the past 35 years. It's hard to imagine the zoo without its lush vegetation and landscaping, due in large part to the generosity of our many friends in Forest Hill! With the help of teen and adult volunteers as well as FOTAZ employees the Zoo staff hopes to have the plants in the ground within the next two weeks. It is definitely a labor of love and sincere dedication to the Zoo when it comes to the very hot task of planting them.
