About the Zoo
Get face to face with wildlife at Central Louisiana's #1 year-round family tourist attraction. Alexandria Zoological Park, located in the heart of Bringhurst Park, was founded in 1926. The zoo is home to over 500 animals from all over the world, including many that are rare and endangered.
Land of the Jagaur, a renovation of the zoo's South American area, is currently under construction. A portion of the zoo is closed off, but animals in that area have been relocated to other sections of the zoo and are still viewable by visitors.
The Zoo is owned and operated by the City of Alexandria under the Division of Public Works. Alexandria Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
It is the mission of Alexandria Zoological Park to promote understanding and conservation of the natural world in which we live.
