Dates: December 5 - 6, 12 - 13, 19 - 23, 26 - 28
Time: 5:30 pm - 8 pm
Admission: $6 per person, ages 4 & up

The Zoo will close at 4 pm and reopen at 5:30 pm on the evenings of Holiday Light Safari.

If you're looking to create wonderful holiday memories, Alexandria Zoo is the place to be this holiday season! Holiday Light Safari is unlike any other event in the area and features hundreds of thousands of lights, "wild animal theme" light displays, train rides, Santa, educational and craft activities for children, entertainment on select evenings, a bonfire, photo ops and much more!

In the event of inclement weather, the decision to cancel an evening of Holiday Light Safari will be announced to local news outlets and via the Zoo's facebook and twitter accounts.



Event Highlights

Let it Glow!
Bundle up and stroll through the Zoo's natural setting, aglow with thousands of glistening lights.


Share your wish list with Santa through December 23.


Hop aboard the Holiday Express train ride where you'll see even more lights and displays.

Get into the holiday spirit with live music at the Festival Plaza on Saturday evenings.


Zootique Gift Shop
Before you leave, stop by the Zootique where a variety of wild gift items - perfect for the animal in everyone - await.


Palm Cafe
Enjoy tasty winter treats from the Palm Cafe. Hot chocolate, meals and snacks will be available for purchase.

Education Station
Stop by the interactive station for kids and discover fun, fascinating facts about cold weather creatures.


Mrs. Claus' Merry Creations
Kids can decorate a sugar cookie and make an ornament with Mrs. Claus.


Photo Ops
Bring your camera to capture all the special moments throughout the Zoo and at designated photo ops!

Warm your paws by the bonfire.

Current FOTAZ members enjoy a special 1/2 price discount on Holiday Light Safari admission on December 5th & 6th. Only includes those covered by the membership. Must show FOTAZ card and photo ID.

December 12 & 13 Spirit Weekend

Students wearing their school's spirit shirt enjoy a special 1/2 price discount on Holiday Light Safari admission on December 12th & 13th.

December 12
In partnership with the United Way, kids can hear stories at four different Wild About Reading stops through the Zoo and receive a free book (while supplies last).

December 13
Live music by Kooter Brown.

December 19 & 20 Character Weekend

Visit with costumed characters Caillou, Garfield the Cat, Baloo the Bear from Jungle Book, and more on December 19th & 20th.

December 19
Special appearance by Louisiana IceGators hockey players. They will be available for photos and autographs.

Live music by Reverend Charley's Patent Medicine Show.
