Checklist For Your Visit

  • Read through the educational opportunities to see the possibilities for your students. Call with any questions.
  • Fax or mail your completed Group Visit Registration Form (Fax 318-473-1149). Please remember that the Fall Semester is a great time to visit the Zoo.
  • Schedule your guided tour, animal presentation or Zoo School class with the Education Department (318-441-6818).
  • Make payment arrangements and lunch/snack arrangements.
  • Enlist chaperones (at least one for every 10 students) and provide Zoo rules to chaperones and students.
  • Inform the Zoo office of any special needs.
  • Prepare school name tags.

Education Animals

These animals are part of the Zoo's education animal collection located in Education Building B and are available for "up-close" animal encounters: box turtle, blue-tongued skink, red-footed tortoise, eclectus parrot, sun conure, American alligator, iguana, Honduran milk snake, ball python, African hedgehog, short-tailed possum, tegu, corn snake, and Burmese python.

Grade Level Expectations

The Zoo can help you meet Louisiana academic standards through our Zoo School program. We can design a class to meet your curriculum needs in areas including math, science, language arts and social studies. Grade Level Expectations (as to the Alexandria Zoo): Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, & Grade 11 & 12.

Zoo Rules for Visitor & Animal Safety

  • No running or yelling at animals.
  • Visitors must stay on the sidewalk at all times. Do not EVER cross ropes, fences, or other barriers.
  • No throwing, spitting, or poking items at animals.
  • Please do not feed the animals - they are on special diets. (Fish food is to feed the koi fish only!)
  • Do not put hands inside fences or enclosures.
  • The Zoo is a smoke-free facility.
  • Children, regardless of age, must be accompanied by adult chaperones for the duration of the visit.
  • Have a good time.
