School Site Visits
A ZOO VISIT WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR SCHOOL
The basic philosophy of the Alexandria Zoo is to encourage groups to visit the Zoo for programs if possible because the Zoo grounds provide a unique experience for students. However, we are available for school visits during the months of November, December, January, and February.
- Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and are determined by the availability of the staff or trained volunteers
- School site visits must be scheduled a MINIMUM of three weeks in advance
- Programs are approximately 30 minutes
- Programs are conducted by Education Assistants, other Zoo staff, or Zoo Docents.
- Programs include live animals (usually reptiles) and/or related bio-facts or artifacts, and zoo videos.
Topics
Topics may be requested to correspond with current classroom study and a conservation message is always included. Presentations are available on adaptations (particularly beaks and feet), migration, classification, animal careers, predators, food web/chains, and Louisiana, and programs that target a particular animal are also available. Examples include: the American alligator, snakes, and tortoises.
Schools are encouraged to visit the Zoo as a follow-up to the school-site presentation.
Fees for School-site Programs
