RANGE:
Central Brazil, northern and eastern Bolivia, across northern Paraguay to Jujuy and Salta Province in northwest Argentina
HABITAT:
All types of terrain with trees, humid forest, gallery forests along water, dry grasslands with isolated trees, and some areas of cultivated land
DIET:
Wild - fruits, seeds and buds, occasionally in maize and corn fields
Zoo - Parrot mix (pellets and seeds); fresh fruit; treats include peanuts and monkey biscuits
DESCRIPTION:
Green plumage with reddish brown forehead, crown and cheeks brownish black; a slight bluish tinge to the nape and yellow neck band
Tail upper side is reddish brown and has blue tip and the underside is olive yellow
Black bill with lighter color tip
Feet are gray
FACTS:
Usually lives in pairs or in small groups outside of the breeding season
Often squabbles for best perch
Swift flyers
High pitched or rolling alarm call
