DESCRIPTION:
Yellowish-red hands and feet; black head, face, and underparts; black back variegated with yellow. Tail of tamarins is never banded.

Group size ranges from 2 - 12

They forage at 16 - 82 feet. They prefer large branches and leap up to 26 feet.
Individuals solicit grooming by "lying down with throat exposed to groomer."
Threat display includes wrinkling the muzzle, head shaking, baring the teeth, and calling. Breeding female dominates the group. Males do not threaten her.
Mating is preceded by mock fighting and tonguing. Scent marks are made before and after mating and during threat displays.
