DESCRIPTION:
Small green parrot with red feathering around the eye. Red on the forehead changing to yellow on the mid crown. The bare skin around the eye is black. There is some red on the lower breast, lower back, and rump. Underside of tail is reddish. The flight feathers have blue edges. Bill is black. Tail brownish above tipped with blue and is gray below.
FACTS:
Travel in small flocks
Sexes are similar
Does not do well in second growth forest or pastures
YOUNG:
Young are greener, having less red on rump and belly. The yellow crown is not as bright as in the adults.
STATUS:
Vulnerable, CITES App. II. Declining due to loss of forests for agriculture, and from collecting for the pet trade.
