Welcome Back!

Alexandria Zoo will be back open beginning Wednesday, June 17 with the modifications listed below based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) guidelines. We want to thank you, our community, for your patience and your support, and we’re looking forward to seeing you back at the Zoo!

Please note, these precautions are TEMPORARY and will be lifted once it is safe to do so. Protocols will be adjusted as necessary to keep staff, guests and animals safe. Please be patient with us as we try to best accommodate guest needs and state and local directives.

New Operating Hours

  • Open Wednesday – Sunday.
  • Gates open at 9 am. Last admission sold at 3:30 pm. Guests must exit by 4:30 pm.
  • The number of guests allowed in the Zoo will be limited to eliminate crowding.
  • Groups will be limited to 10 persons.

One-Way Trail

  • There is a clearly marked one-way path throughout the Zoo.
  • No re-entry will be permitted once guests enter the Zoo. Once inside the zoo, guests cannot backtrack or exit to retrieve items from their car, go outside to smoke/vape, or for any other reason (except emergencies). Please keep this in mind when you pass restrooms on the trail.
  • Guests will be allowed to pause from the path to spend time at an exhibit, but should return to the path once you are finished to maintain social distancing.

Events & Programs

  • Keeper chats will be temporarily suspended.
  • All special events and private events, including birthday parties and venue rentals, have been suspended until further notice. Future events will be determined as more information becomes available.
  • Summer Safari, Teen Trek, and other education programs have been canceled for summer 2020.
restrooms Restrooms are open and will be sanitized throughout the day.
koi Fish food can be purchased at the Admissions Window.
train Train ride, playground, and indoor exhibits/buildings are temporarily closed.
stroller and wheelchair Stroller and wheelchair rentals and souvenir machines are temporarily unavailable due to high contact.
chips, soda, hotdog Palm Café will be open with a limited menu of grab-and-go items. The Gift Shop is currently closed.
picnic basket Picnicking is not available inside the zoo. Outside beverages may be brought in. Outside food, glass items, alcohol, and single-use disposable straws are NOT permitted.

Additional Protective Measures

  • Disinfection of high-touch surfaces will occur in accordance with CDC & LA Department of Health guidance.
  • Hand sanitation stations are provided at multiple locations.
  • Protective panels are installed where face-to-face interactions most frequently take place.
  • Public markers are placed to serve as reminders to stay at least 6 feet apart and to not touch surfaces.
  • Zoo staff and volunteers will wear face coverings.
  • Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering while visiting the Zoo to help protect fellow guests, our staff and animals.
